Imprivata was founded by entrepreneurs that developed groundbreaking identity management technology while working at Polaroid Corporation’s small business incubator. Their team developed and deployed large-scale digital identity systems around the world, leveraging its collective experience in the areas of distributed credential management and credential privacy to authenticate millions of users.

In April 2004, Imprivata shipped the OneSign Single Sign-On appliance. Imprivata’s unique appliance-based approach for providing secure and convenient access to enterprise applications became quickly adopted by organizations in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, state and local government, and other regulated industries.

Today, Imprivata is the leading independent vendor focused on simplifying and securing user access.  By strengthening user authentication, streamlining application access and simplifying compliance reporting across multiple computing environments, customers can align security with user workflows and realize substantial productivity gains while lowering IT costs.

In February 2010, Imprivata launched its Global Healthcare Division. The new division is built upon the company’s successful track record of working with more than 600 hospitals in 12 countries, one million healthcare users and strategic relationships with leading HIS vendors.  The new division reinforces Imprivata’s commitment to help hospitals make patient data easily accessible throughout clinical workflows, enforce patient privacy and deploy transparent security.
