Notes from the Road 19 – Healthcare IT with RES and Imprivata

Last week was a new experience for me in many ways. I attended the first annual Imprivata Healthcon user conference. And while this blog is about my experiences on the road representing RES at industry events and such, technically this week I was not “on the road”. Healthcon 2012 was hosted in my home town of Boston Massachusetts, right on the historic Charles River with splendid views of Harvard, MIT, Fenway Park and the Boston skyline. And the best part was, at the end of the day, I got to get into my car and go home.

HealthCon-A-Palooza 2012!

Wow! For a first pass at a user group conference – Imprivata put on quite the show.

The keynote from Dr. John Halamka included stellar quotes such as how we need to go from the “physicians brain to the patients vein with no paper…” or Dr Daniel Kraft, keynote for day 2 compared the iPhone to the Star Trek Tricorder showing all the apps that transform that mobile device into a futuristic hand held diagnostic tool of the 21st century – way cool for all of us Trekkies.

Mobile management frameworks for BYOD policy, security

Secure messaging capabilities, virtualized desktop implementation and single sign on innovations were just a few of the menu items served up at Imprivata’s HealthCon 12 this week, which I was lucky enough to attend, getting to meet, greet and learn from a great group of health IT geeks.

Allowing More Time for Patient Care

One of the key focuses in today’s ever changing world of healthcare is workflow improvement through time management optimization – a message that was highlighted this past week at Imprivata’s inaugural event, HealthCon 2012.

Workflow has become a popular term that we constantly come across, and with today’s
high-tech age, organizations are seeking ways to try and do more with less.  In healthcare, few seconds can be the determining factor between life and death.

Observations from Day One of HealthCon

Imprivata’s HealthCon kicked off with a full crowd on Wednesday morning. I had been anticipating this first full day since seeing the scheduled speakers and breakout sessions. Kicking it all off was our own Chief Marketing Officer, Ed Gaudet. I knew Ed would prepare the crowd of attendees for what would be an exciting day.

Live from the HealthCon show floor: Recap from the first half of day 1!

This is an exciting day for Imprivata and a milestone for the company as we kick off our first ever user conference! Amidst a Nor’easter and a Presidential election that took us into the early morning, the crowd came engaged and the atmosphere was electric.

The show kicked off with Imprivata’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ed Gaudet, who led us through a brief introduction that highlighted why we’re gathered here today: for Imprivata customers and partners to come together to share industry experiences, insight, and lessons learned on the changing healthcare IT landscape.
