Board of Directors

Dave Barrett — General Partner, Polaris Venture Partners

Dave joined Polaris Venture Partners after a 22-year career of success as an operating executive. As an officer and director of category-leading software and service delivery companies during their periods of highest growth, he built and led teams which consistently achieved market leadership and enterprise value. His executive experiences included broad successes in the development of operating teams, product development and revenue engines, as well as over 20 acquisitions and mergers.

Previous to joining Polaris, Dave served as a director, chief operating officer, general manager and vice president of three publicly-held companies. Through March 2000, Dave served as chief operating officer of Calico Commerce. During his tenure, the company evolved from venture-backed startup through ten-fold revenue growth to become a $45M publicly-held corporation. His team helped to pioneer the e-business market, and with market value of over $3 billion, was one of the top-performing Initial Public Offerings of 1999.

Prior, Dave served as senior vice president of worldwide operations for Pure Atria Software Corporation, a $150 million revenue, publicly-held market leader in software development automation, continuing in that role after the company was acquired by Rational Software Corporation for $1 billion in 1997. Its products served as a cornerstone for Rational’s success and its subsequent acquisition by IBM in 2003, where, in turn, they continue to play an industry-leading role.

Before Rational, Dave spent twelve years with Lotus Development Corporation, a $1 billion revenue, publicly-held pioneer in enterprise software, where among many executive roles, he served as vice president of field sales and services. In that position, he led the build-out of the company’s global sales & services effort, which helped to establish Lotus and its flagship Notes product as an industry-defining software standard. Prior, he had also served as general manager of worldwide federal systems, which during his tenure, was the fastest growing division in the company. Lotus was acquired by IBM in 1995 for $3.5 billion, the largest merger in the software industry up to that point in time.

Dave represents Polaris on the boards of 170Systems, Archivas, Confluence, Dataupia, Imprivata, Integrian, LogMeIn, and mValent, and is a past board member of Centra Software (NASDAQ: CTRA). He serves onthe Microsoft Venture Capital Advisory Board andon the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Leadership Council.

Dave holds a B.S. in marketing management from the University of Rhode Island.

Paul Maeder — Founder and Managing General Partner, Highland Capital Partners

Paul focuses on technology investments, most notably software, as well as systems and security. He has more than twenty-five years of software experience and over nineteen years experience in venture capital. He currently serves on the boards of Amp Resources LLC,  Avidyne, BluTarp Financial, Imprivata, Performix Technologies, Relicore, Village Ventures and VistaPrint .    
 
Paul is a former director of Avid Technology (Nasdaq:AVID), CheckFree (Nasdaq:CKFR), Chipcom, HighGround Systems (acquired by Sun Microsystems), Mainspring (acquired by IBM), SCH (acquired by Legato Systems), SQA (acquired by Rational Corporation), Sybase (Nasdaq:SYBS) and WebLine Communications (acquired by Cisco Systems).
 
Before co-founding Highland, Paul was a general partner at a Boston-based venture capital partnership where he concentrated on software investments. Prior to entering venture capital, he held operating positions for six years in high-growth technology companies. At Novacor Corporation he managed several projects in the development of an implantable artificial heart. Later, Paul was responsible for the development of a complex visual field examination instrument at Synemed Corporation where he also headed the company's mechanical engineering and software development.
 
Paul earned a B.S.E., Aerospace and Mechanical Sciences from Princeton University, an M.S., Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

David Orfao — Managing Director, General Catalyst Partners

Prior to co-founding General Catalyst, David held the positions of President, CEO or Senior VP of Sales, Operations or Marketing for four publicly held companies. Most recently, David led Allaire Corporation from 1997 to 2000 as President, CEO and Board Member. During his tenure, Allaire grew from a venture-backed start up to an $119M public corporation trading on the NASDAQ. The company pioneered the Internet Application Server market with industry leading products such as ColdFusion and JRUN. In January of 2001, Allaire merged with MacroMedia Corporation and continues to be a leading Internet software company.

Before his CEO role at Allaire, David held the positions of Senior VP of Sales Operations and Marketing at Frame Technology Corporation, Claris Corporation, and SQA Corporation. Frame Technology and SQA Corporation were venture-backed corporations that successfully completed Initial Public Offerings on the NASDAQ.

Throughout his career, David has been an angel investor, advisor, and board member to several companies, including, Voxeo Corporation, and Firespout Corporation. He earned a B.A. in Business and Accounting from Norwich University of Vermont.

Omar Hussain — President and CEO, Imprivata, Inc.

Omar brings 20 years of experience in software start-ups to Imprivata as well as a proven track record in growing and managing global software companies. Prior to joining Imprivata, Omar was the founder and CEO of Anchorsilk, an innovative sell-side e-commerce software company. Before that, Omar was general manager of Compuware Corporation's (CPWR) NuMega Labs, where he was responsible for the integration of NuMega Windows business into Compuware while successfully growing revenues and managing operations for a $30+ million, 170 person business unit.    
 
Prior to Compuware, Omar served as VP Marketing at NuMega, where he played a key role in helping to craft NuMega's marketing strategy and its rapid growth. Before NuMega, he was part of the management team at Open Environment Corporation, where as VP marketing and head of business development, he played a key role in the company's growth from a start-up to a public company and was also responsible for the sale of the company to Borland.

David Ting — Founder and CTO, Imprivata, Inc.

Named one of Infoworld's Top 25 CTO's of 2006, David has more than 20 years of experience in developing advanced imaging software and systems for high security, high-availability systems. Prior to founding Imprivata he developed biometric applications for government programs and web-based applications for secure document exchange. David was formerly the technical manager of Kodak's Boston Technology Center, a systems development group for Eastman Kodak. He managed an engineering group that developed the software platform used in most of Kodak's digital photography products including Photo CD print applications.

Prior to that position, he managed Atex System's Imaging Department, where he was responsible for the first full color output system used in the newspaper industry. David worked for a number of start-ups including Lexidata, Inc., and Delphax Systems, now a division of Xerox. Most recently, he was chief architect for eCopyIt, an internet infrastructure start-up offering distributed document capture and direct delivery of documents. He was a member of the scientific staff at the BNR/INRS Labs in Montreal, a collaborative research institution jointly operated by Bell-Northern Research and University of Quebec. He holds six patents and has several patents pending.

Jack Blaeser

As chairman, president and CEO of Concord Communications, Jack led the company from start-up to a $150 million public company powerhouse. After a number of strategic acquisitions that repositioned the company for increased growth, Jack ultimately led the sale of Concord Communications to Computer Associates.  Prior to his experience with Concord, Jack was a managing general partner at EG&G Venture Management, a $47.5 million venture capital fund focusing on emerging, high technology companies. Jack began his career in 1964 with General Electric Company where he held various marketing and sales roles.

Bob McCashin

Bob comes to the Imprivata board with years of leadership experience as a senior corporate executive and ceo. His focus has been in building and managing complex and diverse organizations for the information services, marketing services, and security industries, with extensive experience in the public sector.

Bob most recently worked at Identix as chairman, CEO, and director where he raised $52 million in a secondary offering, moved Identix to the NASDAQ, acquired Visionics Inc., and strategically positioning Identix as the preeminent multi-biometric security technology company in the world.

Prior to Identix, Bob was corporate vice president at Electronic Data Systems (EDS) and was responsible for domestic and international initiatives including the development of EDS’s Global Energy Practice. Bob also served as group executive for Southern Europe. Prior to his international work, Bob functioned as group executive, Federal Government Group in Washington, D.C. and was responsible for all of EDS’s business with the Federal Government. During this time, he was also executive vice president for the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) which has a worldwide membership of 80,000.

Bob is currently executive chairman of the board for Integrian, Inc. and is an active board member for Peerless Manufacturing and Argon ST.

Bob is a graduate of St. Johns University in New York.
