Good Samaritan Hospital Chooses Imprivata for Enterprise Single Sign-on
LEXINGTON, MASS., January 11, 2005 – Imprivata, Inc., the enterprise single sign-on (ESSO) appliance company, today announced that Good Samaritan Hospital, a 247-bed hospital and medical center serving Vincennes, Ind. and five surrounding counties in west-central Indiana and southeastern Illinois, has selected Imprivata OneSign as its enterprise single sign-on (ESSO) solution. As the industry’s only ESSO appliance, Imprivata OneSign allows Good Samaritan Hospital to achieve greater enterprise-wide password security and mitigate and manage privacy risk, all while reducing IT help desk and operational costs.
"At Good Samaritan, our top priority is to provide an application-rich, secure computing environment, which enables our employees and skilled medical staff to provide superior healthcare to patients,” said Charles Christian, director of information systems, Good Samaritan Hospital. “Imprivata is a core component of our strategy, providing an ESSO solution that is quick to deploy, cost-effective and easy to manage, giving our staff simple and secure access to critical applications."
Prior to its implementation of Imprivata’s ESSO technology, Good Samaritan’s security infrastructure included a password policy that required its 21 person IT department to support a staff of 1600 employees, each of whom was responsible for managing their own unique passwords for a multitude of authorized financial and clinical applications including Lawson financials, Synaps PACs, Affinity patient management and email. As both the number of employees and the password-protected applications grew, it became imperative for Good Samaritan to improve its password security practices with an ESSO solution that could not only remove the onus of password management from its employees, but also lessen the administration and support burden on its IT staff. While other ESSO solutions require extensive time and resources to implement and maintain, Imprivata OneSign is affordable, out-of-the-box and requires minimal maintenance.
"A key advantage of OneSign is its ability to take the complexity and risk out of password management and maintenance,” continued Christian. “Passwords can be quickly reset with minimal intervention or end-user involvement. Now, we can enforce stronger password policies, such as alpha numeric, because doctors and other hospital staff no longer need to remember new or complex passwords."
Imprivata OneSign is a proven enterprise SSO appliance that provides an easy, intelligent and affordable solution for organizations that need to quickly and effectively solve password management and user access issues. By providing a common log-in across all enterprise applications, OneSign streamlines access, ensuring that organizations achieve maximum returns on their technology investments, while achieving system security and regulatory compliance set forth by HIPAA and other internal policies.
For Healthcare organizations like Good Samaritan, OneSign provides support for shared workstation environments; a major benefit in any setting where medical staff might use the same computer. OneSign also offers built-in support for strong authentication modalities such as password, ID tokens and finger biometrics as well as other key features including its unique Application Profile Generator™ and automatic agent updating. OneSign ships in redundant pairs ensuring for failover.
