Parkview Adventist Medical Center’s “Big Bang” Approach for EMR: A Stage 6 Meditech hospital shares its secrets

November 12, 2009 at 1:00 pm

Less than one percent of all hospitals in the United States have reached Stage 6 Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Adoption Status. Parkview Adventist Medical Center, a 55-bed acute care hospital in Brunswick, Maine, is one of those very few.

Long before the HITECH Act, Parkview’s IT department undertook their EMR project in order to improve efficiency, save money, increase productivity and strengthen security. While their Big Bang timeline and deployment was not driven by the government stimulus program, their efforts have positioned them well to qualify as a Meaningful User of Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology, qualifying the hospital for significant funding.

How did Parkview Adventist, a small hospital in Maine with a shoestring IT budget, reach HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 Status?

In this web seminar, Bill McQuaid, Parkview CIO, will explain how his team implemented 36 healthcare modules, including Pharmacy, BMV and CPOE in 2 ½ years. Attendees will learn:

  • Why Parkview chose their Big Bang approach to EMR…the method to their madness
  • Best practices for implementation and roll out of EMR
  • Benefits above and beyond establishing Meaningful Use
  • How to provide secure and convenient access to electronic data
