HealthCon-A-Palooza 2012!

Wow! For a first pass at a user group conference – Imprivata put on quite the show.

The keynote from Dr. John Halamka included stellar quotes such as how we need to go from the “physicians brain to the patients vein with no paper…” or Dr Daniel Kraft, keynote for day 2 compared the iPhone to the Star Trek Tricorder showing all the apps that transform that mobile device into a futuristic hand held diagnostic tool of the 21st century – way cool for all of us Trekkies.

The sessions were also stellar…Imprivata chose to have only customers present and not vendors. Now being a vendor I was a bit skeptical, however the customers perspective was absolutely brilliant. They told the good, bad and the ugly – which of course is what the industry needs to make informed decisions and move forward.  Ed Ricks, CIO of Beaufort Healthcare – delivered a great presentation describing how he was able to drastically increase adoption of his CPOE project by using the VMware Point of Care Solution with VMware View, Imprivata OneSign and Teradici Samsung Zero Clients  - for  super fast and easy access to Beaufort’s new systems.

We also heard from Beaufort Memorial, MidMichigan, and Metro Health, about how they were moving to a VMware AlwaysOn Point of Care solution to address availability concerns around accessing digitized records and patient care applications. And  Phoebe Putney spoke about how they were helping accelerate adoption of their EMR systems and attracting new talent to their organization by using technology to deliver better patient care.

But the highlight of the conference had to be the rousing rendition of “Road House Blues” by the Chief Marketing Officer - Ed Gaudet… way to “rock on” Ed.

All in all – great time and a great conference… I am already looking forward to the next one.
