OneSign Secure Walk-Away - ‘2010 Security Innovation of the Year’

OneSign Secure Walk-Away™ Earns Distinction for Balancing User Productivity with IT Security and Data Compliance

LEXINGTON, MA – 22nd November 2010 - Imprivata®, Inc., the company that simplifies and secures user access, has been awarded the 2010 UK IT Industry Award for OneSign Secure Walk-Away™ in the category of ‘Security Innovation of the Year’. Released in March of this year, the solution protects unattended desktops from unauthorized access, streamlines employee workflow, and takes the burden of desktop security out of the hands of employees with automated protection. OneSign Secure Walk-Away has already experienced great traction in the UK, having been implemented by a number of hospitals within the country’s National Health Service (NHS). Not only has OneSign Secure Walk-Away proven to be beneficial in providing a solution to security challenges, but it also has addressed patient safety issues at a number of organisations.

The award winners were judged and selected based on the following key criteria:

  • Innovation: has the product introduced new or leading-edge technologies, created different ways of working or novel approaches that benefit its users?
  • Measurable success: can the team demonstrate significant commercial success for the product during the past 12 months?
  • Customer satisfaction: is there evidence of customers using the product successfully to improve their operations and that they would recommend the product to others?

“OneSign Secure Walk-Away will eradicate the long-standing security problems associated with unattended workstations. Its greatest benefit is that it eliminates the possibility of one clinician making changes in our healthcare information systems whilst the workstation is logged in under a different clinician, which can compromise patient safety and security. Before Secure Walk-Away, this was always a serious patient safety risk,” states Dr. Zafar Chaudry, Chief Information Officer at Liverpool Women's & Alder Children's NHS Foundation Trusts.

OneSign Secure Walk-Away leverages intelligent computer vision technology with active presence detection and user tracking to identify when a user moves away from the desktop. The software then automatically locks the user’s screen, protecting the data from unauthorised access. Upon return, Secure Walk-Away recognises the user and unlocks the desktop. This advanced technology is compatible with industry standard webcam devices and works across both physical and virtual platforms, allowing users flexibility and choice.

“The fact that Secure Walk-Away has been recognized with this prestigious award is gratifying on many levels, perhaps the greatest being that it is proof that truly innovative ideas come from listening closely to the users of the technology, ” said Omar Hussain, CEO of Imprivata.

OneSign Secure Walk-Away is an integrated component of Imprivata OneSign® Authentication Management, which replaces weak Windows desktops and remote VPN passwords with a broad range of strong authentication options—including finger biometrics, proximity cards, smart cards, many national and government ID cards, One-Time-Password tokens, and an employee’s physical location. Imprivata OneSign received a Strong Positive rating in Gartner’s recent report, “MarketScope For Enterprise Single Sign-on.” Strong Positive is the highest possible Marketscope rating and a vendor rated as such is viewed to be a provider of strategic products, services or solutions.

“This has been another exceptional year for the Awards, with winners drawn from a wide range of industries, once again highlighting that IT is truly embedded in our society and brings tremendous benefits to all aspects of life from industry, healthcare through to entertainment and security,” said David Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. “As the Chartered Institute for IT, we offer our congratulations to all those who took part and in particular, the medallists and winners. To qualify as a finalist is terrific; to win is an absolutely fantastic achievement in these highly contested Awards.”
