With a shared mobile approach, companies are investing in a multitude of devices to increase efficiency and increase their control over the device environment – meaning, who can access them, for what purpose, and when. It also allows IT teams to deploy updates or patches that fix company-owned devices, to avoid problems with bring-your-own device strategies. When companies make this shared investment, they usually employ a system called device handoff, whereby, an employee hands the device off to another employee when they’re done with it, normally towards the end of a shift. For example, a nurse ending a shift and passing an iPad off to another nurse – this device is wiped, re-provisioned, and personalized to the next staff member who needs it.
