Five Years of Evolution: The Future of Imprivata Privileged Access

Third party remote access

Nearly five years ago, Imprivata acquired SecureLink to help organisations secure third-party access to critical systems. Since then, the privileged access landscape has changed dramatically. What began as a challenge centred on vendors and IT administrators now extends to AI agents, automation and an increasingly complex ecosystem of human and non-human identities.

Imprivata has evolved alongside these challenges, expanding from its foundation in third-party access security into a unified Privileged Access platform designed to help organisations secure critical access, reduce complexity and adapt to emerging threats.

As we approach the fifth anniversary of the SecureLink acquisition and look ahead to 2027, we're focused on the next chapter: making access security more comprehensive, intelligent and adaptive across the broader Imprivata portfolio.

From third-party access to a unified Privileged Access platform

The SecureLink acquisition established a strong foundation in third-party privileged access management, helping organisations gain greater control, visibility and accountability over vendor connections to critical systems.

Since then, we've built on that foundation to address a broader set of privileged access requirements. Today, the Imprivata Privileged Access platform brings together capabilities for securing internal administrators, third-party vendors, remote support and AI agents, supported by real-time identity risk intelligence.

This evolution reflects our belief that privileged access security should not be managed through disconnected solutions. Organisations need an integrated approach that strengthens security while simplifying administration and supporting the operational demands of mission-critical environments.

In our opinion our progress has reached another milestone in 2026 with Imprivata's first inclusion in the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Privileged Access Management. We believe this marks an important step in our expansion into the broader PAM market and reflects our continued investment in the platform.

Looking ahead to 2027: our vision for access security

As privileged identities, technologies and threats continue to evolve, organisations need security controls that extend beyond traditional approaches to privileged access. Our investments are focused on four strategic priorities.

Expanding and simplifying privileged access management

We're continuing to strengthen core PAM capabilities, including account discovery, onboarding, secrets management and expanded privileged access controls. Our goal is to help organisations secure more privileged access use cases through a unified platform while reducing the complexity of deployment and ongoing administration.

Extending privileged access security to AI agents

As AI agents take on increasingly autonomous responsibilities, organisations must ensure these identities have appropriate access controls, visibility and accountability. Imprivata Agentic Identity Management extends privileged access governance to AI agents, helping organisations securely adopt emerging technologies without sacrificing control over critical resources.

Making privileged access security more intelligent and adaptive

Static access policies alone cannot account for evolving identity risks and sophisticated threats. Through continued investment in Identity Assurance and Threat Detection, we're working to bring real-time risk intelligence into privileged access workflows, helping organisations make more informed authentication decisions and respond dynamically to potential threats.

Bringing access security together across the Imprivata portfolio

Our vision extends beyond the Privileged Access platform itself. We're bringing privileged access technologies together with our broader access management portfolio, extending proven security capabilities to new users and use cases.

Imprivata Advanced Privileged Access (APA) already demonstrates the value of this approach, enabling VPN-less remote access for workforce users by combining Imprivata Enterprise Access Management with secure remote access capabilities from our Privileged Access technology.

Building on this foundation, we're focused on expanding integration across our portfolio throughout 2027, bringing more of our access management and privileged access security capabilities together, including secure connectivity for mobile devices, to help customers address evolving security requirements while simplifying the user experience and reducing operational complexity.

Building what's next

As we approach five years since the SecureLink acquisition, our commitment remains rooted in helping organisations securely and efficiently access the systems that matter most. What's changed is the breadth and complexity of the access challenges they face.

Looking ahead, our vision is to bring together the strengths of Imprivata's access management and privileged access security technologies to deliver more comprehensive protection across human and non-human identities, critical systems and increasingly complex environments.

The foundation we've built over the past five years positions us to expand what's possible for our customers in 2027 and beyond.
