Imprivata in Ireland – sharing ideas, challenges and celebrating successes
Mellony Jewell reports back on the recent Imprivata user groups held in Dublin and Belfast
September often feels like a new year as work resumes after the summer breaks, and it was a great time to hold our Imprivata Security and Clinical Access Meetings in Belfast and Dublin. Both events gave us an opportunity to showcase our solutions, hear different customer success stories (and their challenges) and recognise the winners of our Imprivata Customer Awards.
Dublin – our inaugural event

We kicked off our inaugural Irish user group in Dublin, hosted with our partner PFH, and held at the amazing international venue Aviva Stadium. Customers attending from senior and clinical leadership teams in local, statutory, voluntary and private hospitals were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the event.
A highlight was our Solution Showcase, which gave us the opportunity to demonstrate all Imprivata solutions, of which our Mobile, Password-Less and Facial were of particular interest. We had great feedback from the keynote speeches by CTO Joel Burleson-Davis and PFH CTO Stephen O’Herlihy that they gave relevance, strategic direction and shaped the whole day.
Of course, no user group would be complete without customer case studies and our four speakers from our Customer Awards Winners, HSE, Galway University Hospitals and Tallaght University Hospitals were a great testimony. Telling their stories from national, local, clinical, technical and project lead perspectives, they covered a range of issues and approaches that really addressed the challenges our users face.
Presented by our CTO, Joel Burleson-Davis, Galway University Hospitals won the Outstanding Deployment Award for their impressive deployment of Imprivata across sites in just a matter of months, and clinical adoption with over 5,000 users and 80 apps profiled, resulting in efficiencies that have delivered time back to front-line care.
Beaumont Hospital won the Imprivata Clinical Impact Award, for its clinical deployment of Imprivata that has been embraced across the organisation, resulting in clear optimisations and productivity savings. The Imprivata Partnership Award was won by Tallaght University Hospitals for its long-standing partnership with Imprivata, from being the first site to go live ‘hospital wide’ Imprivata Single Sign On (SSO), to the provision of reference visits for other hospitals now looking to start their SSO journey.
Belfast – a welcome return

Due to their national Epic (Encompass) programme roll-out, this was our first user group in Belfast since 2022. Working with our partner in Northern Ireland BT Group, we hosted the day at their amazing BT Tower location, with fantastic views of Belfast and its historic Titanic Quarter. We were delighted to welcome representatives from NI Trusts, National Children’s Hospital Ireland, Encompass, BT and the HSCNI Board.
The keynote address from Joel was again well received, as was the presentation from BT’s Mark Gibson discussing Healthcare in the community and BT’s role for “better patient outcomes” for Northern Ireland. We also heard the amazing testimonies and stories from the winners of our inaugural Imprivata Customer Awards Northern Ireland, again presented by our CTO.
South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust won the Imprivata Partnership Award for its long-standing partnership with Imprivata, which has covered various areas including SSO, VDO and clinical login optimisation. More recently, its work with Imprivata on Mobile Device Access and shared iPhone docking stations is solving the shared-device dynamics, limiting device loss and friction for clinicians while delivering better clinical workflows for the front-line.
The Imprivata Clinical Impact Award was won by Western Health and Social Care Trust for its clinical deployment of Imprivata SSO with Epic (Encompass.). The project was run with flexibility, rigour and professionalism, ensuring that everything ‘just happened’, and that the solution has been well adopted by the clinical users.
Belfast Health and Social Care Trust won Imprivata Outstanding Deployment Award for its deployment of Imprivata SSO with Epic (Encompass) to over 30,000 users. In addition, its recent use of Imprivata Mobile Device Access with shared device docking stations, to limit device loss and optimised workflows for front-line workers.
At both events Imprivata’s Daniel Johnston discussed the issues of patient safety, clinical access, clinical workflow, ROI and TCO, which was well received. The importance of business cases and Value for Money (VFM) was a hot topic, and many customers fed back on the great support they had received from our clinical teams on this area.
The executive dinners and evening socials were also a great way for attendees to mix informally, share experiences and maybe a tip or two! Thanks to all who attended, shared their stories and celebrated with us the success of our Awards Winners. We are already looking forward to seeing you all again next year.
