Teradici and Imprivata Deliver Industry’s First Strong Authentication Solution for PCoIP Zero Clients

Combination of PCoIP zero clients and Imprivata No Click Access enables healthcare organizations to fully realize virtual desktop cost and workflow efficiencies

Burnaby, British Columbia December 6, 2011 — Teradici, the developer of the innovative PC-over-IP® (PCoIP®) protocol that enables a true PC experience for desktop virtualization, and Imprivata, the leader in access management for healthcare, today announced the availability of a joint solution that delivers strong authentication as well as single sign-on access from PCoIP zero clients. The solution, which combines Teradici PCoIP® Firmware release 3.5.0 and Imprivata OneSign® Virtual Desktop Access with VMware View™, is compatible with a broad range of access cards and ID badges and provides PCoIP zero client users with fast and secure access to their roaming desktops from any location with a simple tap of their badge.

Factors such as the HITECH Act’s incentives for the use of electronic medical records (EMR), the mobile nature of healthcare workers, the requirement to secure patient information and the need to reduce desktop maintenance and increase availability at point-of-care are all driving the swift adoption of desktop virtualization in healthcare. With this integrated solution, clinicians now have streamlined No Click Access™ to secure data from their zero client devices.

“We see tremendous demand for desktop virtualization in healthcare,” said Ed Gaudet, chief marketing officer at Imprivata. “Through this API level integration with Teradici Firmware release 3.5.0, Imprivata saves clicks for care providers accessing from zero clients. These efficiencies can add up to 70 hours annually per clinician. Combined with the cost benefits of PCoIP zero clients, our joint solution is a powerful offering that is being very well received by healthcare providers.”

PCoIP zero clients virtually eliminate the need for desktop management because they have no CPU, application OS, device drivers, fan or hard drive. Fully compatible and integrated with VMware View, the benefits of PCoIP zero clients for IT in healthcare include low operational cost, increased security capabilities, a rich user experience and future-proof desktop scalability.

“Our joint efforts to produce a secure, easy to manage zero client solution which allows healthcare providers to increase clinician satisfaction and productivity, while also accelerating electronic medical records adoption has come to fruition,” said Dan Cordingley, president and CEO, Teradici. “We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Imprivata, working together to provide unique, innovative solutions to customers around the globe.”

“Using Teradici PCoIP devices for our VMware View deployment has been extremely effective. All of our PCoIP zero clients are managed through the Teradici Management Console appliance. From the management console, we can push out configuration changes, update firmware, check device logs and perform other administrative tasks. Within minutes, we can have a Teradici PCoIP device unboxed and ready for deployment. The addition of Imprivata OneSign gives our clinicians no click access to roaming desktops with just the tap of a badge from any PCoIP device. This has a tremendously positive effect on their workflow, removing the need to wait for applications as they move from location to location, allowing more time for patient care.”

“With the constant changes in healthcare, time is of the utmost importance. With the hard work of our IT department, OGHS has become a pioneer electronically with the addition of McKesson and Imprivata OneSign. As one of the medical staff on this pilot system, we saw immediate results. We piloted the system with the medical staff and saw immediate results. Accessing patient records just takes the tap of a badge, we no longer have to memorize or enter multiple passwords. The distraction and time taken to get to the information we needed has been removed, allowing us to be much more efficient with our time and with our patients.”

About PCoIP Technology
Teradici’s PCoIP protocol is an innovative remote display technology that allows the user’s desktop operating system, applications, and data to reside in the datacenter, eliminating the need for traditional desktop workstations, PCs and thin clients, and delivers an uncompromised user experience to each person, anywhere, over any network and to any type of device without incurring the security risks associated with having data reside in remote PCs, laptops, or tablets. PCoIP technology provides high resolution, full frame rate 3D graphics and high-definition media, with full USB peripheral interoperability, locally over a LAN or remotely over a high-latency WAN. It compresses, encrypts and encodes the entire computing experience at the datacenter and transmits it 'pixels only' across a standard IP network to secure, stateless PCoIP zero clients, thin clients, and mobile devices.

The protocol is implemented in several software configurations, including VMware View™, the industry leading desktop virtualization platform as well as in silicon for hardware accelerated performance and enhanced security. A growing ecosystem of over 30 third-party vendors provide a wide variety of PCoIP products including server plug-in cards, rack and tower workstations, blade PCs, zero clients, integrated monitors, and IP phones with PCoIP capability.
