After so much physical distance, it was good to attend this year’s Digital Health Summer School event – in person! – hosted by the University of York. The networking opportunities were highly appreciated and the energy that comes from being back together was palpable by all.
As aways, there was an impressive range of speakers and ideas – so impressive that I wanted to make sure they received the time and attention they deserve. I’ve summarised some thinking from a few sessions that really struck a chord for me:
I’ve been struck by the sad news of the Queen’s passing and wanted to extend my condolences and best regards to all in the UK, and the commonwealth countries, for the loss of a truly remarkable moral and social leader. I have always viewed the Queen as a beacon of reason, stability, steadfastness, civility, kindness and care – in a world that is often challenging and divisive.
We have lost an incredible statesperson of unmatched positive influence, and now those tasks of civility, kindness, and caring fall to us all to carry forward – as part of her lasting legacy.

Tap-and-Go is just the beginning – Reimagine what digital health can do for the frontline
Clinicians are working as hard as they possibly can, many stretched to breaking point after the recent pandemic. With budget pressures and widespread staff shortages adding to an already challenging situation, there is even more imperative to make efficient and intelligent use of technology to improve the experience of our clinicians. There is an urgent need to make our clinicians’ lives better if we are to stem the flow of highly qualified nurses and doctors leaving the profession.
After the novelty and delight of 2022’s Digital Health Rewired being the first major UK in-person event since the beginning of the pandemic, this year’s Rewired came back down to earth. The focus was on the reality of difficult challenges being faced, how to take the opportunities presented by recent major reorganisations, and the impact of the move to more collaborative ways of working.
