No Click Access from zero clients? It’s just another client right?
Well… no…
Earlier this year Imprivata and Teradici announced a partnership to provide strong authentication with Imprivata OneSign Virtual Desktop Access™ from Teradici PC-over-IP zero clients, automating access to VMware View virtual desktops. Many healthcare organizations that we’ve spoken with see great benefits in and are looking at rolling out zero clients due to the lack of an OS to manage and improved power and cost savings. The problem? In order to achieve strong authentication on a zero client and be able to roam a virtual desktop using just the tap of a badge requires the authentication management to be part of, and integrated with the firmware on the device. Since there is no operating system you can’t install an agent or even write scripts to automate activity on these devices. Many healthcare organizations that have come to rely on all of the benefits of OneSign Authentication Management and Single Sign–On for their virtual desktop environments have been waiting for a solution that will allow them to deploy these zero client devices.
Well, wait no longer. Today, Teradici have released Teradici PCoIP® Firmware release 3.5. Within this firmware update is code specifically designed to integrate with a new API from Imprivata that enables full No Click Access® from a Teradici-enabled PCoIP zero client. This integration supports strong authentication with just the tap of an access card or ID badge to automate the process of bringing the user directly to their virtual desktop. This direct integration with OneSign allows these devices to consume our OneSign policies for accessing VMware View virtual desktops, process enrollments, authentication requirements, location based printing, and other user requests as defined within OneSign. The entire process, from entering credentials, selecting a desktop, and logging into applications, is completely automated. Your users will get the same speed, automation, and efficient workflows that they have come to expect using ‘fat’ clients, only now with direct access to their personal desktop from any location and much lower cost and management overhead for the IT staff. Configuration is really simple; connect power and a network cable (or use a POE device and just plug in the network cable), configure two settings on the device, and you’re roaming. No worries if you are planning a selective or phased introduction of zero clients; you can run in a hybrid model with fat, thin, and zero clients all roaming desktops between them so you can roll out the right devices at the right time.
This has been one of our most common requests; support for Teradici-enabled zero client devices. We are excited to be partnered with Teradici and VMware to deliver this integration and become the only vendor to provide this level of integration for secure roaming capabilities. So far most everyone we’ve shown is just as excited and can’t wait to start using them within their View and OneSign environments.
