Tenant Provisioning

Tenant provisioning involves onboarding tenants onto software or cloud-based systems and ensuring that user accounts are accurately established, configured, and maintained. The term “tenant” applies to the concept of an isolated environment or user within a cloud platform that has multiple users. In healthcare environments, particularly with systems like Epic, tenant provisioning is closely tied to onboarding accounts, enabling secure and efficient patient access. For instance, automated tenant provisioning ensures that when new patients are added to Epic systems, their accounts are correctly created, and patient identifiers, such as medical record numbers, dates of birth, or unique identifiers, are accurately captured during onboarding.

In practice, account provisioning for patient access begins when entering patient identifiers into the system during initial registration. This triggers automated processes where Epic systems authenticate, validate, and cross-check patient details, ensuring consistency. Once approved, patients can securely access their health records, schedule appointments, or communicate with providers. Automated tenant provisioning simplifies these processes by reducing manual entry errors and streamlining patient onboarding, enhancing both patient experience and system reliability.

Furthermore, tenant provisioning supports continuous synchronization across multiple tenants or integrated software solutions. For example, whenever a patient updates their profile within Epic systems with information such as contact information or personal details, these updates are automatically pushed across linked tenants or data repositories. This ensures that patient data remains accurate, consistent, and current across healthcare networks and associated applications, significantly reducing discrepancies or data duplication.
