Epic Garden Plot

Epic Garden Plot is an Epic Systems’ Software as a Service (SaaS) offering designed to bring its electronic health record (EHR) platform to independent medical groups. Epic Garden Plot offers a way for primary and specialty care groups that may not have the internal IT resources to deploy and maintain a traditional Epic environment to obtain access to Epic’s integrated EHR. Under this model, Epic provides hosting, support, and configuration, reducing infrastructure demands and administrative overhead for participating organizations.

As one of the most widely adopted EHR platforms in the United States, Epic plays a central role in clinical workflows across hospitals, health systems, and ambulatory settings. Epic supports core healthcare functions, including clinical documentation, scheduling and registration, and billing and revenue cycle operations. For independent practices balancing regulatory requirements with patient care, adopting an integrated EHR can be operationally complex. Garden Plot addresses this challenge by delivering Epic through a hosted and managed services model, allowing providers to leverage Epic’s interoperability network and established data exchange capabilities without building in-house support teams.

Garden Plot complements Epic’s longstanding Community Connect program, which enables health systems to extend their Epic instances to affiliated medical groups. While Community Connect creates shared patient records with local hospitals and is often recommended when available, Garden Plot provides a direct path for qualifying groups to work with Epic when Connect participation is not feasible. In both cases, interoperability and structured data exchange remain foundational, supporting coordinated care, streamlined patient engagement, and continuity across care environments.

Imprivata participates in the Epic ecosystem by integrating its healthcare solutions with Epic to support secure access, authentication, and identity management within clinical workflows. Through established EHR integration pathways, Imprivata enables streamlined user authentication, secure session management, and protection of sensitive patient data within the integrated EHR environment. This approach strengthens security without introducing friction into clinical documentation, scheduling and registration, or billing and revenue processes, thus helping healthcare organizations maintain both operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.
