MALVERN, Pa., and LEXINGTON, Mass., July 28, 2008 – Siemens Healthcare (www.siemens.com/healthcare) and Imprivata® Inc., the converged identity and access management appliance company, have entered a strategic partnership which enables Siemens to offer the Imprivata OneSign™ platform for strong authentication, enterprise single sign-on (ESSO) and physical/logical convergence to its customer base. Users of solutions such as Soarian® Portal, a web-based portal that provides secure access, will be able to seamlessly integrate OneSign into their Siemens and non-Siemens application environments.
OneSign is a non-invasive, appliance-based identity and access management platform that helps organizations enforce secure and compliant employee access to networks and applications. The need for physician and clinical network authentication and single sign-on systems is apparent as healthcare organizations are searching for solutions that help them solve the problem and inefficiency of accessing numerous applications, maintaining multiple sign-ons and expiring passwords, without having to alter their applications, directories or IT infrastructures. According to a recent national survey by Imprivata, 26 percent of respondents log into applications 20-50 times per day, while another 5 percent log in more than 50 times per day.
“Many hospitals are searching for solutions that provide more secure methods to prohibit inappropriate access of data,” said Luis Castillo, senior vice president, Health Service, Siemens Healthcare. “Our customers will now be able to streamline user access and benefit from the proven and reliable expertise of Imprivata and its OneSign solution.”
Imprivata OneSign provides distinct and practical support for healthcare organizations that need to demonstrate compliance with key sections of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). OneSign automates password policy implementation and creates unique, strong passwords behind the scenes to ensure patient data privacy. It also performs password changes automatically on behalf of users, ensuring stricter security and eliminating security breaches associated with passwords written on paper. The OneSign Application Profile Generator (APG) enables single sign-on and password change for all applications, without writing logon scripts, building custom connectors or modifying applications.
“Siemens sought the best solution to help its customers improve patient data security while also extending the value of their existing applications and IT systems. After an extensive analysis, OneSign which is already proven at hundreds of healthcare organizations worldwide, was chosen to solve its customers’ authentication and access management needs,” said Geoff Hogan, senior vice president, Imprivata. “We look forward to working closely with Siemens, and providing a solution to its healthcare industry customers that addresses the stringent security mandates they face while helping them achieve greater staff productivity so they can truly focus their energy on their primary goal – excellent patient care.”
Siemens Professional Services organizations will spearhead OneSign customer deployment while Imprivata will provide product support and related maintenance.
