Imprivata Provides Fast Access to Electronic Medical Record Applications at Valleycare Health Systems

Imprivata OneSign Streamlines Access to Siemens MedSeries4 and Clinical Applications; Improves Clinical Workflow and Secures Patient Data

LEXINGTON, Mass.— August 4, 2010—Imprivata®, Inc., the company that simplifies and secures user access, announced today that ValleyCare Health System has implemented Imprivata OneSign® to eliminate growing password problems and provide its clinicians with fast and secure access to electronic medical record (EMR) applications. ValleyCare will be discussing their enterprise single sign-on (ESSO) implementation at the upcoming Siemens Innovations Conference on Tuesday, August 10th, 2010 in Orlando.

As part of an ambitious effort to move towards a comprehensive EMR system, ValleyCare has replaced or upgraded nearly all its health IT (HIT) systems, deploying Siemens MedSeries4 Health Information System, along with laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and PACS systems from Siemens. In accordance with HIPAA regulations, each system and application required a separate password and log-in, which quickly proved to be a burden and hindered workflows. Because clinicians needed to access these applications often, and each required unique credentials, ValleyCare was averaging more than 250 helpdesk calls a month for password resets.

Based on Imprivata’s success in the healthcare market and work with other Siemens customers, ValleyCare determined that Imprivata OneSign was the best solution to solve its password and user access challenges. Imprivata OneSign fits easily within ValleyCare’s clinician workflow, enabling the organization to seamlessly integrate existing HIT systems and implement access policies in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

“As we deployed more systems and applications, it became clear that requiring our clinicians to manage multiple passwords was negatively impacting productivity and working against our goal of helping to facilitate clinical care,” said Bob Woods, Siemens site executive and ValleyCare director of information systems. “With Imprivata OneSign, we were able to balance our IT security and compliance concerns with clinician productivity, delivering the fast, secure access needed to provide superior patient care.”

Since deploying Imprivata OneSign, ValleyCare has significantly reduced password reset requests and improved clinician workflow, while simplifying compliance reporting, clearly documenting that the organization is meeting with the spirit of HIPAA and other regulations. In addition, as ValleyCare deploys more applications and systems as part of its move towards a comprehensive EMR program, Imprivata OneSign enables single-sign on (SSO) to be part of the project from the start, allowing the organization to deploy transparent security that is easy for its clinician community to embrace.

Imprivata’s Global Healthcare Division is committed to helping hospitals and healthcare organizations improve patient outcomes by simplifying and securing user access to EMR. Imprivata OneSign®, Imprivata’s flagship solution, provides healthcare organizations with rapid single sign-on and strong authentication for all leading HIS vendors, as well as all other types of applications. Key Imprivata OneSign features include OneSign FastPass, OneSign ProveID, OneSign Secure Walk-Away, Citrix/XenApp & terminal services support, shared workstations and fast user switching, built-in support for a broad range of authentication and multiple card types, self-service password reset and seamless integration with context management solutions.

“As the healthcare industry continues to move quickly towards EMR implementations to demonstrate meaningful use, forward looking organizations like ValleyCare understand that they need to simultaneously figure out a pathway for clinicians to securely access the data in the EMRs without disrupting workflows,” said Omar Hussain, Imprivata president and CEO. “By leveraging Imprivata to solve its core password management challenges early on, ValleyCare has removed the access and IT security issues associated with EMRs.”
