Parkview Adventist Medical Center Named a 2008 InfoWorld 100 Winner

Imprivata and UPEK Keys in Providing Award-Winning Hospital Single Sign-On and Finger Biometrics Technology

LEXINGTON, MA - December 8, 2008 - Imprivata®, Inc., the converged authentication and access management company, and UPEK, the global leader in biometric fingerprint security solutions, announced today that their customer, Parkview Adventist Medical Center, has been named a winner in this year’s InfoWorld 100 Awards. Parkview won because of their ability to excel in compliance by implementing biometrics and single sign-on (SSO) for greater overall security.

Parkview was recognized for implementing Imprivata’s OneSign Single Sign-On (SSO) combined with UPEK TouchChip biometric readers to solve password management, security and user access issues. Given annually, the awards honor companies for IT projects that exemplify intelligent, creative uses of technology to meet business and technical objectives. Profiles of winners, along with InfoWorld's editorial analysis and insight, are available at www.InfoWorld.com.

“We are honored to be recognized by InfoWorld and awarded for our technology innovation,” said Bill McQuaid, assistant vice president and CIO at Parkview Adventist Medical Center. “This award illustrates our commitment to delivering the best and most reliable patient care. The power of Imprivata’s SSO solution combined with UPEK’s biometric readers has continuously allowed Parkview to provide the increased security that protects our patient data, while freeing doctors’ time for the utmost in quality patient care.”
'Breathing new life into outdated operations, advancing business goals with inventive use of technology -- this year's winners demonstrate, once again, that innovative, business-minded IT is the lifeblood of successful organizations,' said Jason Snyder, senior editor for InfoWorld.

The staff at Parkview needed to quickly and effectively solve password management and user access issues. Specifically, the hospital looked to increase the overall security of patient information while making access to the patient’s medical record convenient for clinicians. In August 2005, McQuaid selected Imprivata’s OneSign SSO solution combined with UPEK TouchChip biometric readers to strengthen security and relieve the clinicians' login/logout pains.

Finger biometrics is increasingly recognized as a reliable, secure means to authenticate users,” said Mike Chaudoin, biometrics business unit director at UPEK. “Our partnership with Imprivata has allowed us to take the next step in offering enterprises a comprehensive security solution by allowing them to strengthen IT security, improve user productivity and help meet regulatory compliance guidelines. We are proud to provide Parkview with the capabilities they need to offer the best healthcare possible to its patients and thrilled that their efforts have been recognized by the industry.”

OneSign SSO provides a converged authentication and access management platform for securing enterprise networks and applications and allows clinicians at Parkview to access the information they need in a quick and easy manner. Using the UPEK biometric device, Parkview enables each doctor or nurse to log on to any PC at the facility with a single fingerprint placement. As a result of the SSO and finger biometrics project, the need for physicians and staff to memorize multiple passwords was eliminated, allowing Parkview to cut helpdesk costs and enhance employee productivity, as clinicians are now spending less time logging in and out of network applications, while improving the security of patient data and overall patient care.

“Parkview, like other hospitals using our technology today, continues to stay ahead of the curve in technology innovation and this award is indicative of its success in striving for the best solutions for delivering top-notch patient care,” said Omar Hussain, president and CEO of Imprivata. “We are honored that this comprehensive single sign-on, strong authentication management and finger biometrics initiative has helped Parkview achieve the goals that they have set and we congratulate Bill and his team on this well-deserved award.”
