Keeping digitized personal health information private and secure, while opening up new lines of communication, is apparently clogging up some systems. That was reason enough for IT security company Imprivata to launch a global healthcare division in 2010 to help hospitals access data easily, efficiently and safely.

Lexington-based Imprivata, a IT security firm focused on the health care industry, is expecting an initial public offering within two years after growing to more than $50 million in revenue in 2012, CEO Omar Hussain said in an interview. The venture-backed company also announced Tuesday that it has added two to its board of directors — Dr. John Halamka, the well-known chief information officer of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Rodger Weismann, former CFO of Phase Forward (acquired by Oracle in 2010).
