Imprivata and VMware Collaborate to Deliver a New Secure Mobile Clinical Experience for Healthcare

Collaboration Gives Clinicians Secure EMR Access, DEA-Compliant E-prescribing and Secure Messaging to VMware Workspace ONE Managed Devices

LAS VEGAS, NV -- (Marketwired) -- 03/01/16 -- HIMSS Conference - Imprivata®(NYSE: IMPR), the healthcare IT security company, and VMware (NYSE: VMW) today announced a collaboration to create a new mobile clinical capability for healthcare by combining Imprivata OneSign®, Imprivata Confirm ID®, and Imprivata Cortext® with VMware Workspace ONE™. This new solution is designed to simplify mobile access to electronic health record systems (EHRs), enable DEA-compliant electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS), and provide secure communication between clinicians and patients, from Workspace ONE managed devices.

IDC projects that the healthcare industry will spend $30 billion on mobility solutions by 2019, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.2 percent. Health IT organizations have unfortunately been limited in their selection of solutions to help physicians maintain effectiveness regardless of where they are or their device of choice. *

VMware Workspace ONE™ unifies user, desktop and mobile management to enable a Digital Clinical Workspace™ that moves with care providers throughout their day. Imprivata extends the clinical capability of Workspace ONE through integration of the following products:

  • Imprivata OneSign allows healthcare workers to leverage their OneSign credentials to securely access Windows and cloud-based applications via Workspace ONE managed mobile devices.
  • Imprivata Confirm ID provides a comprehensive two-factor authentication capability to Workspace ONE managed devices, across multiple healthcare workflows, including secure access to patient records, DEA-compliant e-prescribing, computerized physician order entry (CPOE) and medication ordering.
  • Imprivata Cortext provides secure communications between clinicians and between clinicians and their patients.

"The ongoing collaboration between Imprivata and VMware has provided us with secure Health IT solutions that give doctors and clinicians access to the applications and information they need at the point of care, where it helps them the most," said J. Joshua Wilda, Vice President Of Information Technology, Metro Health Innovation Center. "From an IT perspective, Imprivata and VMware support improved agility to quickly meet evolving regulations. This new solution for EPCS has the potential to help us both prevent abuse of schedule II drugs while enabling patients to access the drugs they need in a timely manner."

"Through a successful six-year relationship with VMware, we have helped our mutual customers improve clinical efficiency with a combined solution using Imprivata OneSign for secure, fast access to VMware Horizon published applications and desktops inside the hospital," said David Ting, Chief Technology Officer at Imprivata. "Now, as the healthcare industry goes mobile, we are excited to be one of the first to support VMware's new Workspace ONE platform, which includes both Horizon and AirWatch, to provide the same user experience to our customers from hospital owned or personal mobile devices, so they can access and communicate patient information anywhere at any time."

The Digital Clinical Workspace builds on VMware AlwaysOn Point of Care™, a reference architecture used by healthcare organizations globally. Designed specifically for healthcare applications, and tested with an ecosystem of healthcare and infrastructure partners including ImprivataVMware AlwaysOn Point of Care mobilizes healthcare providers, enabling secure access to PHI to improve patient care decisions and provide a new level of flexibility.

"Combining VMware Workspace ONE with Imprivata OneSign will help preserve the streamlined workflows healthcare clinicians expect from combinedVMware and Imprivata solutions," said Sumit Dhawan, senior vice president and general manager, Desktop Products, End-User Computing, VMware. "Clinicians are demanding the benefits of the consumer mobile experience they are used to in their personal lives. With Workspace ONE and Imprivata OneSign, we will uniquely deliver that secure clinical experience from any device both inside and outside the hospital."
