Atlantic Health System Wins 2014 Imprivata Healthcare Innovation Award

Atlantic Health System Selected For Its Strategic Use of the Imprivata Secure Communications Platform to Coordinate Care across its Accountable Care Organization.

Lexington, Mass.—May 21, 2014—Imprivata®, a leading provider of authentication, access management  and secure communications solutions for the healthcare industry, today announced Atlantic Health System as the 2014 Imprivata Healthcare Innovation Award winner. The award recognizes the Imprivata customer that best demonstrates innovative use of Imprivata solutions to improve provider productivity for better focus on patient care.

Atlantic Health System, one of the largest non-profit health care providers in New Jersey, was selected for its innovative use of Imprivata Cortext®, the secure communications platform for healthcare, to improve provider productivity, reduce unnecessary patient readmissions, improve pharmacy workflows and increase referrals within the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization (ACO).

“We initially deployed Imprivata Cortext to give our care providers a more efficient, secure communication tool, but we quickly realized that we had a powerful care coordination solution,” said Dr. Thomas Kloos, executive director of the Atlantic management services organization, serving the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization and Optimus Healthcare Partners ACO. “Imprivata Cortext improved our care team approach with specialists within our ACO. We use Imprivata Cortext to develop a more patient-centric approach by allowing our providers to quickly identify and communicate with the correct specialist within the ACO. We are also seeing improvement in communications efficiency through reductions in physician response time. These are just some of the many benefits we get from Imprivata Cortext, and we are honored to win the 2014 Imprivata Healthcare Innovation Award.”

In addition to increasing clinical coordination within its ACO, Atlantic Health System also uses Imprivata Cortext to reduce unnecessary patient admissions. Previously, when a patient presented at the hospital, the emergency room physician often could not communicate quickly with the primary care physician or home health agency to determine the best care plan, and the patient would typically be admitted. By enabling fast, secure communication with the patient’s primary care provider, the use of Imprivata Cortext can help emergency room physicians determine if an admission is necessary. Imprivata Cortext also improves the efficiency of pharmacy workflows at Atlantic Health System by allowing pharmacists to send fast, secure messaging to contact physicians with questions about medication orders instead of using pagers.

“Imprivata Cortext is one of those rare tools that not only delivers on its promises, but is versatile enough that we have applied it in a variety of different ways and it has produced benefits every time,” said Linda Reed, RN, vice president, Behavioral and Integrative Medicine and Chief Information Officer, Atlantic Health System. “In this case, a safe, secure way to communicate among physicians is also making the delivery of health care more efficient throughout Atlantic Health System.”

Atlantic Health was honored during Imprivata HealthCon 2014, where attendees voted for the overall winner amongst three finalists. The runners up for the 2014 Imprivata Healthcare Innovation Award are Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System and NorthShore University HealthSystem.

“Imprivata congratulates Atlantic Health System for winning the 2014 Imprivata Healthcare Innovation Award and applauds its creative use of Imprivata Cortext to improve efficiency and meaningfully impact the patient care process,” said Clay Ritchey, chief marketing officer at Imprivata. “We also honor NorthShore University HealthSystem and Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System for their innovative use of Imprivata solutions. Our customers are some of the most inventive, forward-thinking healthcare IT leaders in the industry, and as highlighted during Imprivata HealthCon 2014, they continue to demonstrate excellence in strategically leveraging technology to improve provider productivity for better focus on patient care.”
